Breaking Free From Good Girl Guilt

Let's talk transformation. Because at the beginning of the year, 2024, I celebrated a milestone: 600 hours of coaching under my belt. That's 600 hours of helping incredible babes like you break free from the shackles of good-girl guilt and reclaim your inner fire. It's about helping you shed that self-doubt and step into the powerful, self-loving woman you were always meant to be.

Now, before you think this is a humblebrag, hold on a sec. I'm sharing this because I want you to know this: This transformation is absolutely within your reach. You crave a life filled with self-love and purpose? It's closer than you think. And guess what? You don't have to go it alone.

Today, I'm spilling the tea on three key ingredients that, in my experience, are the secret sauce to this incredible shift. Why do I say this with such confidence? Because back in 2018/2019, these were the very tools I used to transform my own life. And let me tell you, I call on these bad boys all the freaking time

So, buckle up, because we're diving deep!

Ingredient #1: The power of anger

Surprised? Yeah, me too when I first considered this one. But here's the truth: I needed that raw, "eff this" kind of anger. The "I'm done!" fire that burns away the complacency and ignites change.

Think about Brené Brown's brilliant book in "Atlas of the Heart": anger is the emotion that flares up when something blocks your desired outcome, or when you feel something isn't right. Makes sense, right? We get pissed off, frustrated, maybe even a little heartbroken, scared, ashamed, or betrayed.

And here's the key: I'm inviting you to feel these emotions if you want to move forward. Here's the caveat: after the initial burst, channel that anger into disappointment, not self-pity. Self-pity whispers, "Poor me, nothing will ever change." Disappointment, on the other hand, roars, "Damn it, that wasn't what I wanted! Time to do something different."

Ingredient #2: Embrace the unfamiliar

Craving change? Stuck in a rut? Want to wake up feeling like you're living a whole new life? Here's the secret weapon: shake things up! Show your brain that you're not afraid to break free from the familiar.

For me, it was a wild ride of dance classes, amateur dramatics, solo travel adventures, and even living alone. Some things terrified me more than others, but they all sent a powerful message to my brain: "Life is moving forward, and we're coming along for the ride!"

Now, let's translate this to your life. Maybe it's grabbing a coffee by yourself for the first time. Maybe it's a crazy leap like moving across the world (shoutout to my amazing Aussie client!). Maybe it's ending a relationship that no longer serves you. Or maybe it's simply taking up pottery… – the point is, you get to choose the change. Remember, no one is going to do it for you. Take control and make the change happen.

Ingredient #3: You don't have to do it alone

Alright, hold on a sec, this isn't a shameless sales pitch for my coaching. Believe it or not, it's not for everyone, and that's totally okay. But for the love of Ryan Gosling (because seriously, who doesn't love Ryan Gosling?), please don't try to navigate this solo.

Think about it – therapy, coaching, support groups, even dog walks with a friend (new or old, doesn't matter!). Reach out to your sister, your neighbour, whoever. Just promise me you won't bottle it all up inside.

Here's the plot twist: you're not alone in this. Those 600 coaching hours? Proof positive that countless women struggle with the same feelings. And let's be honest, who wants to struggle alone?

Now, let's get real. Finding the right support system can feel overwhelming. Here are some tips to navigate the wonderful world of "not going it alone":

  • Therapy: This is a fantastic option for anyone who wants to delve deeper into the root causes of their good-girl guilt and self-doubt. A therapist can provide a safe space to explore your past, your emotions, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and cultivate self-compassion.

  • Coaching: If you're looking for a more action-oriented approach, coaching can be a great fit. A coach can help you set goals, identify roadblocks, and develop strategies to overcome them and move forward. They'll be your biggest cheerleader as you work towards your dreams.

  • Support Groups: There's power in numbers, and support groups offer a sense of community and belonging. Connecting with others who understand your struggles can be incredibly validating and motivating.

  • Friends and Family: Don't underestimate the power of your existing support system. Talk to your close friends and family about what you're going through. They might be able to offer a listening ear, practical advice, or simply a shoulder to cry on.

Remember, the key is to find what works best for you. Don't be afraid to experiment and try different things until you find the support system that empowers you to thrive.

Breaking free from Good Girl guilt: It's a journey, not a destination

Listen, babes, this transformation journey isn't a linear path. There will be setbacks, moments of doubt, and days where you just want to crawl back into bed and pull the covers over your head. That's okay! It's all part of the process.

Here's what matters most: you're moving forward. You're acknowledging your feelings, embracing new experiences, and building a support system that empowers you. That, my friend, is a freaking win!

So, what are you waiting for? Let's ditch the good-girl guilt and embrace the badass woman you were always meant to be.

Here are some final thoughts to keep you going:

  • Be patient with yourself. Change doesn't happen overnight, so celebrate the small victories along the way.

  • Practice self-compassion. Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding you would offer a friend.

  • Don't be afraid to ask for help. Remember, you don't have to go it alone.

  • Believe in yourself. You are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to.

And lastly, take a look at The Good Girl Club, if you’re looking for a game changing opportunity to get a whole bunch of cheerleaders behind you as you start to change your life.

In the meantime, I'm here cheering you on every step of the way. You've got this, gal!

With endless love and support,

Meg
